Kitting

Kitting is complex, and scale creates more complexity. That’s where we come in: All Points handles even the smallest details for even the biggest job. We take the products and materials you provide and create the corresponding marketing and sales assets you need to accompany them. This can include sourcing the products and managing the printing. We provide online web portals tailored to each of our clients, enabling individual client representatives to customize needed materials for specific projects and customers.

Many marketing and fulfillment companies offer kitting and fulfillment services that involve packaging separate items that arrive as separate pieces into a single grouping before customers order them.

Whether it’s for the way a product is bundled for in-store displays, or an upcoming promotion that requires bulk packaging in a specific way, kitting and packaging services are often necessary.

Creating a kit is the process of combining different individual products into a single item that includes multiple products. Pre-assembling individual items into bundles allow you to ship them together quickly, rather than picking and packing them individually, which can be time-consuming.

In most warehouse management systems, the SKU code of an individual product is used to locate the item when fulfilling an order. With kitting in warehouse, you combine items that are usually ordered together into a single unit for storage in your fulfillment center. Having the products bundled together makes finding them more convenient and avoids the hassle of assembling them after an order is placed.

How do Kitting Services Help Your Businesses?

Warehouses and fulfillment centers can store everything required for kitting. In addition to kitting and fulfillment, warehouse distribution services also provide secure, safe, and clean storage and timely delivery of all components. Furthermore, kitting and packaging warehouses use cutting-edge inventory tracking technology and efficient floor mapping to ensure that every part can be retrieved at any time.

Your business exists to make money, through profits as well as minimal expenses, so why not save money through our printing services? However, this is one situation where DIY tactics will not save money. The various parts of a good kitting service are too expensive for most businesses to undertake on their own. Outsourcing kitting and fulfillment services can prove to be the best and smart decision for your operations.

Kitting and fulfillment services save you:

  • Costs and complications associated with leasing or buying warehouse space and maintaining it
  • Purchasing warehouse management systems to track stock, order status, and item location
  • Not to mention the hassle of training workers to handle fluctuating orders
  • Money and storage space, because inventory is purchased only as needed
  • Kits can be customized to customers’ specifications, resulting in fewer returns for you.

Porsche Cars North America

Based in Atlanta, GA, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is a subsidiary of Stuttgart’s Porsche AG, and is the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche automobiles. Since its establishment in 1984 its approximately 400 employees provide parts, service, marketing and training for more than 200 U.S. dealers.

Kitting Challenges

Each new Porsche arriving at a U.S. port receives a custom-kitted vehicle wallet containing manuals and up to eight additional pieces of model-specific information. Once the vehicle is inspected and all documentation completed it is then delivered to the dealer.

In 2014, Porsche’s sales increased by 22 percent over the previous year. Normally a cause for celebration, this growth amplified Porsche’s dissatisfaction with their previous kitting vendor, whose turnaround time and wallet kitting accuracy failed to meet brand standards. Facing costly scheduling and production delays of the vehicle wallets, mismanaged wallet inventory, and misshipment problems, Porsche decided to find a new partner.

Our Kitting Solutions

The All Points implementation team visited the Porsche port authority team in Brunswick, Georgia, as part of a comprehensive review of the existing kitting process. Analysis included production methods, scheduling, inventory management, implementation of content updates, and timing wallet arrival at the port to meet incoming vessels. Other notable aspects of the program improvement included how communication was coordinated from Porsche’s supplier base, the origination of the vessel file, and the Porsche support center team. On a regular basis, business reviews were conducted to discuss current business conditions and emphasize continuous improvement in the workflow.

Impact on Porsche Kitting Capabilities

Porsche saw a dramatic improvement in delivery of their vehicle wallets to the ports. Major cost savings were realized in reducing inventory levels, freight, improved quality control, and internal labor overhead. Moreover, the time from when the vessel file was issued to the arrival date was nearly halved. Recovering both cost and time meant Porsche employees could return to focusing on what they do best: producing and selling world-class vehicles.
